Geology Protractor
360 degree protractor for geologists and geology students. Quickly add accurate strike and dip measurements to field maps. Easily draw dipping beds in cross-section. Designed for students attending geology field camp courses, courses with field mapping components, and structural geology courses.
Watch the tutorial video here to see how it works!
Designed by Dr. Steve Adams to help geology students develop the skills of field mapping and drawing cross-sections. This analog, tactile tool, creates a deep, hands-on understanding of rocks and their geometric measurements.
To quickly mark strike and dip measurements on field maps using the front side of the protractor, the user rotates the dial to the correct bearing, aligns the protractor with it's flat edges N-S and E-W then draws the strike line along the dial spoke.
To quickly draw dipping beds on hand drawn cross-section figures, use the back side of the protractor, turning the dial to the dip angle, and draw a line at a unit contact along your topographic profile.
Dimensions 3.5 in x 3.5 in x 0.3in (9cm x 9cm x 1cm)
Has small lanyard hole in bottom right corner if you would like to attach a lanyard.
Made in the USA.
